June 08 - Curry Club, The Dukes Arms Woodford

The Dukes has a new games room, not only that, they do a curry night on Thursday!! So it would have been rude not to visit and see what they had to offer. Curry Club members in attenance were: Alan P, Brian S, Prof Brian B, young Tom, old Bill, Tony, Jim M, Pastor Ian, Brian G, Dan and Lord Lucan (yes I know, there is always one).

We started with a beer in the lounge and were then shown to a private room (maybe our reputation preceeded us?). The room was comfortable, though Julian, I mean Lord Lucan, sat at the end on the inside and of course suffered from having to let people out. Now that wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't been sitting next to Bill, who is on a new diet. Bill only went up once for food Hilary, honest!

At the bottom end of the table a conversation started about the speed of light. Someone wanted to know what it was in miles per hour and then kilometres per second and then feet per day and it all got complicated. Funny enough the Prof didn't get involved and stayed quite .. Oh no he didn't, the conversation went very scientific and we had a mini lecture that could easily have been recorded for the Christmas Royal Institute of Lectures series.

The lecture continued and there was something about worm holes and Bill taking tablets. Now I'm not sure if the conversation moved from worm holes to Bill taking tablets, or whether Bill is taking tablets for a worm hole. I don't think I want to go on with this thread. Anyway, let's talk food.

So we had 3 different curry's, a rather nice masala mash, rice, poppadoms, various chutneys, naan bread, Samosas and other items. All in all a very good spread indeed. Everyone helped themselves and of course some went up for seconds and thirds. I'll come to the scoring later, because after we had eaten we were invited to go upstairs to the gaming room. There we found Pool, Skittles, Giant Jenga, Darts and other games. While two people headed for pool, it wasn't long before a skittle competition was set up. Some bright spark had the idea the this big board we saw was to be laid down to provide a line to play from. Fortunately, the manager found us before we spent too much time standing on the card table! Anyway, Bill just managed to beat Tony in the skittles comp, before dominoes took over for some.

So to the scoring. Now I must point out that I think one of the members has forgotten that 5 is high and 1 is low!!! So I reserve the right to update the scores after I have had a quiet word. The score of 20.98, does not really represent the comments made at the table as the quality was good, quantity excellent, price very good. Jim made his usual trip to the loo to check on the cleanliness and gave it the thumbs up. Clearly, one persons scores dragged down what would have been a very good score indeed.

The mixture of buffet curry and a few games afterwards went down very well and we would recommend this establishment. I'll be back with a revised score, I'm sure. Of course this is our personal opinion on the night. So until next time, night night.

... forgive me Lord for I have sinned, I've told a huge lie about Bill, he was up and down for food like a yoyo, I've never seen a plate piled so high with food. Oops I thought I'd finished the blog and was taking a moment of prayer.
