Oct 06 Curry Club - The Mission Church

It was decided to play at home this month with the Rushden Mission Curry Club meeting at the church. As is the norm for this venue the range of local take-aways close to the church are happy to supply our needs. Bill, Ian, Dan & Alan played host to a smaller group than usual with holiday and ill health keeping some away.

Eating at the church enables people to have different cuisines from around the world; Chinese, Indian, Italian (well Pizza) and good old Fish and Chips are all readily available.

One of the technical complexities of having a choice of take-aways is the working out of how long each restaurant will take to prepare the meal. We have over time become experienced in knowing that Indian takes longer than Chinese and that both take much longer than Fish and Chips. So some calculating has to be done to order items at the right time, otherwise we can end up with 11 people waiting and staring hungrily at the Fish and Chips being eaten by the non-curry eater.

With the usual finance rep unwell the gents had to fend for themselves and calculate the bill from the variety of menus. It was somewhere near the right amount.

Of course eating in means washing and drying up, something some gents seem to have a medical disorder with. From the kitchen we hear a range of calls like –

No they don’t go there! How many more plates are there to wash-up? No you can’t have his plate he’s finishing the left over naan up by making a chip-butty with it. Anybody know if there is another T-towel, this one is dripping now. How come there are only 11 knives and forks when there were 12 of us eating? Why is this rubbish bin bag making a clanking noise? Anyone seen Bill? Yes he is checking on the boiler, when we got up to clear up he thought he heard the boiler making a noise and went to investigate … 20 minutes ago.

Ah, eating in has it moments!
