Meeting up at the pub this month were, Colin, Bill, Tony, Jim M, Dave, Alan, Keith, Lewis and we were happy to be joined by the new Pastor Ian Fall and his eldest son Dan.
The pub does a curry night on a Thursday with a cost of £5.95 for a curry and a pint. Well it would have been rude not to try this one out.
We were sat in a private room, perhaps they had heard about how rowdy Jim M can get after a pint of bitter. The room provided our own smoke free haven.
Everyone sampled the 4 or 5 different curries on offer, all except Lewis that is, who for some inexplicable reason doesn’t like curry! We ordered 9 curries and a Big Mac and chips for Lewis. Once the beers had arrived we settled into the usual discussion about life and politics. The waitresses fussed around us bringing us the food and drinks. There was no problem with extra rice.
One waitress was busy collecting plates during one of Bills tales about famous people he has gigged with. Bill told everyone (including the listening waitress) about the time he was on holiday and ended up gigging with a Womble. This was one of those stories where everyone was waiting for the punch line that didn’t occur. The waitress walked off with a look of bemusement, to which Bill commented that she probably wasn’t old enough to remember the Wombles on tv.
Working out the cost for this one was easy with everyone owing the same for their meal, accept Lewis of course, and Bill who always has a side order. Drinks after the first free one were extra and consisted of the usual pints of lager, bitter and diet Coke. Always makes me smile when we eat a big oil fried curry and wash it down with a diet Coke. Reminds me of the time we ate a takeaway around one members house and his good lady returned from diet club, only to eat the leftovers from his meal.
