Drinks were ordered and then we checked the extensive menu. It didn't take long before someone spotted the unusual menu. I say unusual, what I mean is the eat in menu prices appear to be double the take-away prices. We discovered that during September and October everyone gets 50% off the eat in menu price. Now I say up front here, the menu prices were high so the 50% off brings the prices roughly in line with other establishments. I guess it's a bit like these shops you see that seem to permanently have a closing down sale on. We'd like to see what the eat in menu prices are like after the 31st Oct and if they are the same, we would not be returning in a hurry. Alan B pointed out that the menus looked rather new, almost as though they had recently been made.
Anyway enough about this, let's hear about the conversations. Early conversation had Bill telling us he had bought an electric screwdriver to do up his nuts. Apparently, manually doing up his nuts often ends with his tool flying out of his hand. If fact it once nearly hit him in the eye. Moving swiftly on, Pete told us how his knowledge of the Hebrew text comes in handy when callers come knocking and use altered text to put across a story. Pete says let's look at the original Hebrew and see what it says shall we.
We then discussed the last time a fun song was in the charts, Pastor Ian offered the Crazy Frog as the last one of this type. Tony offered the current top 10 as good candidates. Another discussion centred around engine noises playing songs, someone quipped that the French Renault engine playing God Save The Queen was amusing. This lead to Julian and Pete discussing putting F1 engines into other cars. Apparently Renault put one in the Espace and Ford in a Transit. Someone commented that they had seen one in a Robin Reliant, very funny.
Colin said that Apple were about to bring out a new device called a Brick. We understand that it will be a Window smasher, tee hee. Colin did make a comment that by the time I put this on the blog, Apple would have formally announced the product and everyone would have one. Well Col, here I am at 8:10 the next day doing the blog! We discussed themed laptops because there is a Bentley one, we also know that there is a Ferrari one as well. Someone said what about a David Beckham one and it would have just one button, the "init" button.
Anyway, I guess we should talk about the food and do the scoring bit. Have to say the food was good and this was reflected in a good score of 4.45. Quantity received a 4 and Price (at half price costs) was a 4.41. The dinner for 1 specials came in at £8.45, not bad but portion sizes were not large. Staff got a lower 3.75 as did ambiance, not sure why. Pete checked the conveniences and reported an OK, maybe his standards are higher than our usual checker (Jim M). So final score was 20.36. Not bad, but short of the top of the league. Note the opinions expressed here are entirely personal and were based on our visit on the day.
We got the bill and discovered that drinks were not included in the half price. So after some recalculating and reminding some people that yes they did pay £1.50 (that's half price!) for a couple of poppadoms and chutney (what have we said about this before) we collected the money and paid.
Another successful curry club outing, though not one to threaten the best experience we have had. Until next time .....
