August 08 - Mission Church

This month we decided to have a home game with curry club meeting at the Mission Church. Tony, Simon, Mark, Bill, Alan D, Alan P, Colin M, Brian, Pastor Ian and Ian Randell met at the church to sample the delights of the local take aways. Bill had an array of menus for us to choose from. In the end the choices were split around 50-50, with the Spice of Life and China Town taking the votes.

As we are old hands at ordering take-aways, we know that the Indian always takes longer than the Chinese, so we planned to order the Indian first and time the Chinese to be collected in time for us to eat together. Bill had to do some negotiating with the Indian to reduce the cooking time. In the end we were pretty close and all ate together.

There were some interesting conversations on the two tables, one of the best was a discussion about sport that the British have invented and are still good at. We came up with a good list including: Conkers, Queuing, Cheese rolling and Clogging. Well I think it was clogging and something to do with kicking each others shins. Maybe I took the notes down wrong! Tony told about how he was impressed with a recent hotel he stayed in that had iMac's for TV's, with of course full Internet access.

There were conversations about holograms, Penny Farthing racing and something about Ian and gurning, not sure whether that should be Guernsey or whether it was Ian's contribution to British invented sports. Of course there was what has become a frequent one upmanship with regards to famous people we have met. The latest additions came from Colin and Brian. Brian saw the Beatles in the Cavern in the 60's, but was clearly out done by Colin who has seen the Honey Monster!

With regards to the food, well both the Chinese and the Indian got a thumbs up. No scoring this month though as we couldn't score all the categories. It was nice to get home at a reasonable time for those who had to get up for work the next day.

Until next month, ....
