Apr 07 Curry Club - Pooja, Wellingborough

Alan, Bill, Pastor Ian, Colin, Eugene, Brian B, Mark, Jim M, Keith, Jim K and Ian Randall made the trip to Wellingborough for a journey into the unknown that was the Vegetarian only Pooja Restaurant.

The men had to contend with deciphering the menu as the usual westernised favourites like Vindaloo, Madras and Korma etc were hard to come by. The meal was served in average time by the friendly staff. So the customary serious discussions about life began, “best programme on TV”, “worst programme on TV”, “Did I tell you I had a piece of metal fly past me today at work?”, “motorbikes rule” etc.

Now it was at this point that one of our men decided to go for a freebie!! Having eaten all but the last morsel of his food Alan managed to find a small shard of glass in his meal. The owners, that’s of the restaurant and not the glass, but they probably owned both, apologised and did the right thing and declared Alan’s meal free. Next month we are to take lots to see who can have the next shard of glass from Alan’s supply.

The general consensus seemed to be that the meal was good, particularly if you are a vegetarian, but on the average to slow side. The establishment was on the small (cosy) side, so booking is essential. They do provide some form of take-out as well because one wife managed to sneak in on the men only curry experience by taking delivery of a Lassi, courtesy of her hubby Brian.

In the absence of the money collector, Pastor Ian did the now customary job of stand in treasurer and apparently utilised a complex numbering scheme to get the monies correct, even with the free meal!
